Cy Hoskins New Gander Manager

GANDER – (Special) – Cyril “Cy” Hoskins was announced here last night as the manager of the new Gander Rink. The announcement was made by the Board of Governors of the Gander Hockey Association. He will take up his duties on or around December 10.

Hhoskins, a Gander native, is presently living at Clarenville when he has been hockey coach for the past three years. After starting his early hockey while attending school at Gander he played for Feildians in the St. John’s junoir league in the 1955-56 season.

During the 1956-57 season, he performed for Guards in the St. John’s senior Loop making the All-Stars both years. The following winter he played his hockey at Gander before moving to Clarenville where he has been one of the big driving forces behind hockey at the Trinity Bay community.

In making the announcement the board stated that all applications received for the manager’s position were considered by the rink board and the choice of Mr. Hoskins was confirmed by the board of directors.

A spokesman for the board said that they are very pleased to obtain a man of Hoskins’ ability and with his hockey background and experience “This should make for a bright hockey fugutre for gander.” he added.
